Ariel Partners is offering a comprehensive two-day “bootcamp” workshop for Human Centered Design for IT and non-IT stakeholders.   The workshop introduces new and better ways to understand the customer and develop more intuitive and user-friendly solutions.  The HCD workshop teaches techniques including stakeholder mapping, empathy mapping, scenario mapping, persona definition, journey mapping, How Might We (HMW)? and pain point identification, brainstorming and ideation, future state design, and others.  It introduces useful and effective tools for conducting user research including a structured interview template, surveys, focus groups, in-context immersion and “wizard of oz” research.   Simple and effective design techniques including storyboarding, sitemaps, cover story mockups are also covered.

Come learn techniques for understanding your customers better and designing better solutions to their real problems. Real insights and innovative solutions are out there just waiting to be discovered!

Trainer: Craeg Strong

Mr. Craeg Strong, AKT, CSM, CSP, CSD, CSPO, PSM, ITILv3, PMI-ACP, PMP, LeSS, SAFe, is the Founder and CTO of Ariel Partners. He has been in the IT industry since 1988. He works on Large Commercial & Government Projects and is an Agile Coach/DevOps Engineer, Kanban Trainer/SpecFlow ATDD Trainer, and is highly skilled as a Performance & Scalability Architect. He is also a Certified Ethical Hacker, Polyglot Software Developer. Mr. Strong attended MIT for his Computer Science undergraduate studies and holds a DoD Top Secret clearance.

User Research Observation

  • Nielson Norman Landscape of User Research Methods

  • Understanding customers by using Flash polls, usability testing and A/B testing

  • Stakeholder interviews, hearing from customers with their own words,

  • The difference between Research and Requirement Gathering

User Understanding

  • Understanding our customers and their needs

  • Stakeholder mapping, empathy mapping and persona identification


Day 2


  • As-is mapping, frictions, ‘how might we’ and ideas

  • Activity: Taking stakeholders and customer journeys through the design process

  • Designing future press release, storyboards, sitemap/schematic diagram, wireframe diagram, UX mockup

  • Putting it all together: Design Canvas

Solution Development

  • How to use Ron Jeffries “Three Cs” formula for user story creation

  • Understanding the user’s rationale and emotional motivations behind their use with your product service or feature

  • The use of the innovation cycle to characterize our stories

  • Story Mapping: connecting user scenarios to user stories to plan agile releases
